  • Place of origin: Tropics of America.
  • Description:  A. bracteatus is a large terrestrial species belonging to the Bromeliad family. The plant bears rosettes of wide sword like foliage forming a natural cup at the  centre that tends to fill up with water and trap food for the plant. Dark green leaves growing to 40in, become red  fading to pink when exposed to sunlight.  Flowering typical of pineapple fruit and prolific.
  • Grow best:  If planted on the ground , bromeliads need normal care of sunlight and moisture. If epiphytic, the only care is keeping the cup filled with water.
  • Use:•Ornamental, while the pineapple is edible.
