  • Scientific name: Vitex negundo
  • Place of origin: Africa, Asia, especially near water bodies
  • Description: Erect shrub grows to 8m with a reddish brown bark and digitate leaves with three or five lanceolate leaflets. They bear panicles of many white to blue colored pretty flowers and succulent black or purple drupes for fruits.
  • Grow best: In well-draining soil in bright sunlight and sufficient watering. In areas close to water bodies too. 
  • Use: Leaves are used in steam inhalations to treat sinus headaches. To keep pests away from stored garlic and even drive away mosquitoes.
