Lavender Herb

  • Scientific name: Lavandula
  • Place of origin: Africa, Europe, Southeast India.
  • Description: Short-lived annual, herbaceous shrub with hairy leaves rich in oil. Leaf shapes may vary from simple to pinnate. Fragrant flowers may be blue, lilac, blackish  purple or yellowish tubular flowers.
  • Grow best: In well-drained soil, in full sun with minimum need for fertilizer. Propagation by seeds.
  • Use: In outdoor gardens , parks. The medicinal oil is extracted from the flowers and both the flowers and the greens are used in cooking pastas, salads and baking cupcakes too.
