Place of origin: Central and South America that are tropical.
Description: Herbaceous perennial vine with heart –shaped leaves which are edible, as also the large starchy and sweet tuberous roots. The flowers are medium-sized and sympetalous, funnel shaped and purple. The tuberous roots are long and tapered with a smooth skin and flesh that maybe white, yellow, orange or purple or pink.
Grow best: In well-drained loamy soil, in partial sunlight and watering only when dry. These plants are resistant to drought. Propagation by vegetative reproduction or root cuttings.
Use: In pots. Leaves are valued condiments in all kinds of cooking.
