  • Place of origin: Native to the forests, mountains and deserts of Central and South America, the southern United States and the West Indies. Belongs to Tillandsia species which are evergreen, perennial flowering plants in the Bromeliaceae family.
  • Description: The Scarposa does not have as many leaves as the T. Ionantha.  Leaves are covered with less scales, and are more fragile.   The leaves are greener, longer and thicker. When in bloom, only the  inner leaves turn red. The outer ones usually remain green. It has a  short scape and a branched inflorescence. The petals are violet.  An  adult average size is about 10 – 11cm.   
  • Grow best: Thrives in hot and humid environments. This variety should be watered  more frequently.  Propagate from pups.


  • Use: Perfect for drilled wine corks, small seashell magnets, small terrariums under 5 inches, cork bark, driftwood and any other medium.
